Following last week’s cup exit, The Clams fell to a second successive home defeat on Saturday against a young, athletic and technically-strong PMG Excel team. The defeat ended a run of five league wins and, although Elston were able to reach half-time 0-0, a series of defensive errors in the second half, combined with some good attacking play by the visitors, condemned The Clams to another home loss.
Elston did have chances of their own and, unfortunately, missed two penalty kicks during the game, as well as hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions. However, those near-misses shouldn’t take anything away from PMG Excel who were worthy winners, although late goals from Teddy Furman and James Scott gave some level of respectability to the final score.
Elston United: Sam Adcock, Barney Repper, James Smith, Louis Cross, Thomas Hazelwood, Sam Lloyd, Toby Cullen, Harry Johnson, James Scott, Teddy Furman, Will Veys. Subs: Archie Dillon, Adam Fear, Ed Hodgson, Brad Musgrove, Matt Spencer.
